Martin Katz Jewelry

It should come as no surprise that Beverly Hills-based jeweler Martin Katz is a go-to jeweler for the Hollywood elite.

Katz began making and selling jewelry in college and upon moving to Los Angeles after graduation, he worked for the prestigious company Laykin et Cie, whose salons were situated in the now bygone I. Magnin department stores. He then joined Donald Tallarico’s former Beverly Hills jewelry salon before striking out on his own.

Always enamored of vintage pieces, Katz’s various collections reflect that passion. His absolutely beautiful work is carefully and creatively designed, meticulously executed, and utilizes the finest quality gemstones, often of spectacular size and quality. Within a short time, his client list included rarefied names from among the worlds of fashion, Hollywood, and corporate America. His jewelry is frequently featured in the pages of magazines like Town & Country, Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He sells his jewelry at his own shop on Brighton Way in Beverly Hills and at Bergdorf Goodman in New York.

Flowers are always an inspiration for Katz and some of his floral designs have novel aspects to them. For example, his tulips are on a stem that allows for interchangeable tulip blooms. His sunflower button earrings have a collapsible post and earring clip and interchangeable centers. In addition to creating gardens of rainbow-hued flowers, he also has fabricated charming, and sometimes whimsical fruit-inspired jewelry — strawberries and grapes in particular. His maker’s mark, an “M” on the underside of his pieces, signifies his work, often accompanied by an identifying number.

Among his lavish jewelry is the New York Collection, inspired by the skyscrapers of Gotham’s jagged-edged skyline. He also is well known for his stackable micro-pavé-set rings — narrow bands of diamonds and/or gemstones that may be multi-colored, or set with a single-color stone.
