Antique Georgian Foiled Black Dot Paste Rivière Necklace in Silver and 14K

Item NEC-510660

Composed of colorless paste stones, slightly graduating in diameter from 5.1 mm to 5.4 mm, set in silver, with a 14k yellow gold chain extension and concealed clasp.

The paste stones are bright white in color and each accented with a painted black dot to simulate a culet, with minimal spacing between each link.

Paste was developed in the late 17th century as an imitation stone that could capture the sparkle of diamonds and other gemstones. Made of crystal or leaded glass, the imitation pieces were often created as a replica of the family jewels that would be suitable for travel. Today, their value lies in the history and their rareness, as fewer and fewer pieces have managed to stay intact.
