It’s difficult to discern just how influential Pantone’s annual pick for their Color of The Year is on fashion, accessories and well, life in general, but upon learning that “Greenery” their pick for 2017, evokes hopefulness, renewal and revitalization, one has little choice but to be on board.
And luckily, the yellow-green hue, which embodies both warm and cool tones, is perfectly captured in the sparkle of a peridot stone. And like the emotions Greenery elicits, peridot can apparently have the same effect.
“There’s a lighthearted, cheerful feel to them,” says Beladora owner and jewelry expert Russell Fogarty of peridot, “It’s striking and often used as a contrasting stone.” He adds that Chanel and Bulgari have previously used the vibrant green gem in many pieces due to their uniformity and even color.
Peridot aren’t just consistent in color, they’re also steeped in history, dating back as one of the first stones to be mined dating back to as early as 1500 B.C. Some historians believe that the emeralds worn by Cleopatra were actually peridot.
The stone has managed to maintain its appeal as an incredibly pretty and wearable gem that works for the every day or, when set a certain way, can certainly dazzle for a black tie affair.
