Brides use words like “classic”, “timeless” and “elegant” when describing their wedding day goals. And in addition to the location, flowers and of course, overwhelming feeling of love, it’s the jewelry and accessories that play an integral part in creating a look that stands the test of time.
It’s why when it comes to what piece or pieces of jewelry to wear on the big day, women often turn to royal (and fashion royal) icons for a dazzling dose of inspiration.
Between Grace Kelly, Princess Diana, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge and of course, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the pick for their nearly legendary nuptials has been either diamonds or pearls.
And why not? Both are the epitome of all things timeless and beautiful, especially when it comes to marking a special occasion.

Pearl Power — Grace Kelly, Jackie O, Elizabeth Taylor and Queen Elizabeth chose pearls for their wedding day look (The Queen wore both diamonds and pearls actually, with a double strand of pearls around her neck and a stunning diamond tiara atop her head.)
Pearls have a more traditional and sometimes conservative look to them. They are also an effective way to elegantly temper a lace or ornate gown, providing a smooth, shiny surface without quite as much brilliance as a diamond.
Plus, pearls make a beautiful choker (as evidenced by Jackie O’s choice) and the collar grazing length has been such a huge trend, some might select it as a way to accentuate a strapless or off the shoulder neckline.

Dazzling in Diamonds — Kate Moss, Kate Middleton, Princess Diana and Mia Farrow donned an impressive array of diamonds for their respective wedding days.
Moss’ look had a slightly art deco feel and her jewelry echoed that. Middleton is the modern day princess and her delicate diamond drops played perfectly with her cascade of brown hair and of course, that equally eye-catching tiara.
